Soapstone sculpture mother and child green-grey 31 cm

Soapstone sculpture with mother and child made by an artist from Zimbabwe. Deep colours appear more than often in this stone statue of a mother and child, brown and black are represented in this stone. The stone statue is made of pure natural stone which could develop for years until it was mature enough to make this beautiful stone statue. See also our blog where we inform you about how these soapstone statues are made.

The sculptures are made of natural stone with the greatest possible care.
The smaller sculptures are made of a soapstone, this stone is not suitable for outdoor use. The larger sculptures are mostly made of opalstone, springstone, cobaltstone or fruit serpentine. This is a harder stone and suitable to stand outside.
In the stone irregularities can occur such as veins and lines. These irregularities give the sculpture extra charm and a unique character.

The stone is worked in various stages with a hammer and chisel, grater and file. Once the coarse shape has been created, the stone is polished with waterproof sandpaper until it is completely smooth. After polishing, the sculpture is heated and a wax layer is applied. When the sculpture has cooled down again it is polished and gets its full colour and shine. The sculpture is ready.
